Saturday Wine Tasting: Bringing Oregon back to NJ at Gary's Wine & Marketplace

Gary and his crew just returned from a trip to Oregon, scouting out some new finds and learning more about old favorites from the Willamette Valley and beyond. Since we couldn't take you all with us (TSA rules are restrictive, you know), this weekend we thought we'd bring a bit of Oregon wine back to you!

Join us at our tasting counters this Saturday from 12-4pm for a taste of a few of our Oregon favorites, including:

2008 GF Go Figure Oregon Pinot Noir Lot 6: Stellar wine from a stellar vintage that's starting to drink even better after a few months in the bottle, and now we have a special coupon offer of $10 off 2 bottles for a limited time only! (GarysWine.com Coupon Code: 10OFFGF)

2008 Snowline Pinot Gris
:Oregon's go-to white for many years has been Pinot Gris. Years ago a famous Oregon winemaker explained its popularity with a one word answer- "Salmon"Snowline Pinot Gris is made in a style somewhere between the power of Alsace and the delicacy of Italy’s Pinot Grigio. Clear and crisp with a burst of peaches and pears in the mouth followed by a smooth and satisfying finish. Pairs nicely with cold lobster salads, salmon steaks, roasted halibut and turkey dinners.
2008 Ken Wright McCrone Vineyard Pinot Noir:Ken Wright Cellars is devoted to showcasing the inherent quality of selected vineyard sites. With a clarity and breadth that is unequaled by other varieties, Ken Wright believes Pinot Noir best expresses the character of these sites. Rather than stamping wine with a varietal trademark, we see Pinot Noir as a vehicle for conveying the aroma, flavor and texture of the location in which it is grown.

Located in the Yamhill-Carlton District, this is a densely planted vineyard (1 meter x 2 meters). The sedimentary soil, know as Wellsdale, is extremely well drained and promotes early ripening. Elevation is 400' with a south-southwest inclination. Slopes are 5 to 15 degrees. Half of the vineyard was planted in 1992 to the Dijon 115 clone grafted on 3309. The second half was originally planted to Dijon Chardonnay clones but was grafted in 2000 to the Dijon 777 clone of Pinot noir. The wine from this site is powerful, dense and deeply colored focusing mainly on black fruits. Approximately 700 cases are produced.
