Saturday Wine Tasting: Labor Day Grilling Wines

Ok, we all knew this day was coming: the last official BBQ weekend of the summer. So tie on that novelty apron and stop by any one of our tasting counters this Saturday from 12-4pm for a taste of some of our favorite wines for barbequing and take the whole concept home with you.

2007 Smith & Son Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley

Price: $19.99
Reg: $24.99
ON SALE!
Pair with pork ribs slathered in Cobb's Barbeque Sauce!
The legendary Napa Valley is notorious for producing some of the most complex Cabernet Sauvignon in the New World. With hot days and cool nights, the grapes develop balanced acids and thick skins, resulting in rich tannins and superior color and flavors.
We farm our Napa Valley vineyards with these climate conditions in mind. By managing the canopies correctly, we encourage smaller berries, resulting in a high skin to juice ratio. With these small berries we can optimize the excellent flavors and color.
Our exceptional vineyards within the appellation, Skellenger Vineyard and Ball Lane Vineyard , combine to make this 2007 Cabernet Sauvignon complex and compelling . The rocky loam soils force the vines to struggle for water, producing grapes that are packed with rich chocolate and tobacco flavors, with layers of dark cherries. The wine was aged in a combination of French and American oak for 24 months. This wine should pair well with many of your favorite roasted meats, grilled vegetables or with many assorted cheeses. Aging potential for this wine is 10 – 15 years.

2009 Las Olas Rueda

Price: $19.99
Reg: $24.99
ON SALE!
Pair with chicken marinated in Hoboken Eddie's Mean Green Sauce
Wine lovers have recognized the value and quality of Spanish red wines for a few years, but with the 2009 vintage, Spanish white wines will be on everyones must buy list. Jay Miller, of the Wine Advocate says "Spanish white wines from 2009 are especially exciting. It was a splendid vintage in northern Spain and the whites from Rias Baixas (for AlbariƱo), Rueda (for Verdejo) and Valdeorras (for Godello) are marvelously fresh, intense, and riveting. Readers who are seeking alternatives to oaked wines and Chardonnay in particular need to give these wines consideration."
Las Olas is a blend of 70% Verdejo and 30% Viura from Rueda, and is a great refreshing bottle of wine. Fermentation in stainless steel gives it such a clean and vibrant feel on the palate. It is pale yellow in color with intense fruit. Light and crisp, with mineral notes and herbs sailing on into a long finish.

2008 Sherwood Estate Pinot Noir

Reg: $16.99
ON SALE!
Pair with Fire and Flavor Cedar Grill Planked Salmon
The hottest region for Pinot Noir that over-delivers in a big way for the money is New Zealand - and this time it's the 2008 Sherwood Estate on center stage. Quality Pinot Noir at an amazing price.
While Dayne and Jill Sherwood have rooted their family winery in the picturesque Waipara region of South Australia, they knew that if they were going to make a great everyday Pinot Noir they'd have to source from some vineyards in Marlborough - and that's exactly what they did! They started sourcing grapes from their own Sandy Creek, Stoney Range, and Rowley Crescent vineyards and have a produced a phenomenal wine for the price.
