The verdict is in: The 2008 vintage in Bordeaux is yet another great vintage. And the best part is that prices have actually come down despite the high quality!
Robert Parker on the 2008 vintage, "..The 2008 vintage turned out to be excellent, with a number of superb wines that are close to, if not equal to the prodigious 2005 or 2000 vintages.."
The Chateau La Chapelle Maillard is our first 2008 Bordeaux to arrive in the stores. A Gold Medal Winner and it's under $15. A blend of Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc.
This is a well-balanced Bordeaux with nice red fruit character, notes of cassis and chocolate, and a structured, toasty oak-inflected finish. Well done for under $15.

It's a fairly safe bet to say that if you live in Bordeaux, and your surname is Lurton, you've got it pretty good. You may have heard of Pierre Lurton, CEO of two little properties called Cheval Blanc and Chateau d'Yquem, or Lucien Lurton, who bought up 11 very prominent properties in Bordeaux (think Brane-Cantenac and Dufort-Vivens), then passed them on to his ten children in 1992. One of those lucky children was Marie-Laure Lurton, who inherited three chateaus from her father, the most noteworthy of which is Chateau Villegeorge.
Villegeorge's wines have been appreciated since the Eighteenth Century. Close in proximity to the prestigious vineyards of Margaux and sharing a similar soil type, their wines are Cabernet-dominated and elegant, with a lot of tannic structure and deep, dark fruit. Drink now or lay down for 2-3 years to mellow.
